This sleek and ultra high speed 150’ catamaran was built in 1999 by Derecktor Shipyards of the United Sates. On sea trials it achieved 52 knots at full displacement, making it the fastest passenger-only catamaran in the world. Passenger capacity is 300 seated in stylish and comfortable interior. Derecktor Shipyards has been one of the United States' foremost leaders in aluminum, commercial and luxury boat construction, service, repair and refit. The company is renowned for building innovative vessels. Reliability, aesthetics and functionality are critical in fast ferry design and for this vessel Derecktor Shipyards partnered with world leading designers. After detailed analysis and tank testing, the designers settled upon a chine hull catamaran design which was proven to offer much less resistance at high speed than a more conventional round bilge catamaran design. The vessel is fitted with a Detroit Diesel TF80 Marine Turbine that uses a Cincinnati MA107 gearbox and two AlliedSignal TF40 marine turbines, with a total power of 5,535 kW installed in each hull. Each pair of turbines are mounted directly onto the Cincinnati gearbox. The gearbox combines the power and reduces the single output shaft speed to 765 rpm. Independent clutches on the turbine input shafts allow for single turbine operation in each hull for slower operating speeds and should it be required, power from the second turbine can be brought online almost immediately. The gearbox output shaft can be clutched to totally disengage power to the two MJP 950 DD waterjets when alongside. The two MJP waterjets each 662,500 liters of water per minute at full speed. Low wake-wash even at very high speeds Maritime Dynamics T-foils and Trim Tabs improve stability and sea keeping This fast catamaran can sustain loaded service speeds in excess of 50 knots. With two turbines shut down, the vessel can achieve up to 40 knots. To optimize sea keeping and onboard comfort, a full Maritime Dynamics ride control system was fitted which features an active T-foil and Trim Tab on each hull.
